Today, they’re one of the most Instagrammed spots on the island. I definitely recommend taking some time to soak in the view and snap a few photos. A visit to Panathenaic Stadium (or Kallimarmaro) is another must-see in Athens. This historic stadium, made entirely of marble, is where the first modern Olympic Games were held in 1896, and its history dates all the way back to the 4th century BC when it hosted the Panathenaic Games. When you’re there, you can walk or run around the track and imagine what it must have been like during the ancient games. It’s an incredible place to soak in some Olympic history while feeling like part of the action.
