Perth – Australia

Perth, the capital of Western Australia, has quickly become one of my favorite cities to visit. It’s a place that effortlessly combines the best of both worlds, beautiful beaches and expansive outdoor spaces. Whether you’re looking to relax on Cottesloe Beach or explore the lively atmosphere of Elizabeth Quay, Perth has something for everyone. The city’s laid-back vibe, combined with fantastic food and almost year-round sunshine, creates a perfect balance of nature and city life.

Places To Stay:

Duxton Hotel
If you’re looking for a convenient and comfortable place to stay in the heart of Perth, the Duxton Hotel is a great choice. Located close to the Swan River and just a short stroll from some of the best shopping, dining, and entertainment areas, it’s perfectly positioned for exploring the city. The hotel features modern rooms, a variety of dining options, and excellent facilities, including an outdoor pool, a gym, a sauna, and a steam room. Whether you’re visiting for business or just taking a weekend escape, I’ve always found that the Duxton Hotel provides top-notch service and a fantastic base to enjoy all that Perth has to offer.

Things To Do:

Visit Rottnest Island
Rottnest Island is a must-see destination when in Perth, and it’s one of my favorite places to escape the city. A short ferry ride from Fremantle, Perth, or Hillarys Boat Harbour, the island is known for its breathtaking beaches, crystal-clear waters, and, of course, the adorable quokkas. The ferry ride only takes 25-45 minutes, depending on where you’re departing from, so it’s super easy to reach.

Once on the island, you’ll have no shortage of things to do. Hiring a bike (or even an e-bike) is one of the best ways to explore the island. Cycling allows you to visit secluded beaches like Geordie Bay or the popular Pinky’s Beach at your own pace. The island’s beaches are perfect for swimming, and if you’re into snorkelling, the water is so clear that you’ll feel like you’re swimming in a giant aquarium. There are also some great coastal trails for hiking if you’re after stunning views and a bit of adventure. And, of course, you can’t visit without snapping a selfie with one of the famous quokkas—they’re everywhere, and they love posing for photos!

Whether you’re looking to relax by the beach, enjoy some outdoor activities, or spend time with the island’s unique wildlife, Rottnest is an ideal escape.

Top tips for making the most of your trip to Rottnest Island:

  • Book your ferry in advance: Ferries can fill up quickly, especially during peak seasons, so it’s a good idea to secure your tickets before you go.

Book your ferry now!

  • Rent a bike: It’s the best way to get around the island. There are plenty of rental shops on the island, and if you’re after an e-bike, I recommend booking one in advance to avoid disappointment

Explore the Beaches Along Perth’s West Coast:

Perth’s beaches are some of the best I’ve ever visited, and they offer a little something for every kind of beach lover. Here’s a breakdown of some of the most popular ones:

Cottesloe Beach:
Cottesloe Beach is the classic Perth beach experience. With its soft white sand, crystal-clear waters, and relaxed atmosphere, it’s the perfect place to swim, picnic, or just unwind. There are also plenty of beachfront cafes and bars, so it’s easy to spend a whole day here, watching the sunset and enjoying some great food.

Scarborough Beach:
If you’re looking for something a bit livelier, head to Scarborough Beach. It’s a hotspot for surfing, swimming, and sunbathing. The surrounding promenade is lined with cafes and restaurants, making it a great place to hang out after a swim or catch some live music. The energy here is always upbeat, and I love how there’s always something happening along the beach.

City Beach:
For a quieter, more family-friendly experience, City Beach is a fantastic option. The waters are calm and ideal for swimming, and the wide, sandy shores are perfect for laying out in the sun. Plus, it’s just a short drive from the city center, so it’s easy to escape the hustle and bustle and enjoy some peace and quiet by the sea.

Trigg Beach:
Trigg Beach offers a more laid-back vibe and is known for its great surf breaks. If you’re into surfing or even just watching surfers in action this is the place to be. It’s also less crowded than some of the other beaches, which makes it a great spot for a more relaxed beach experience.

Leighton Beach:
If you’re seeking a more peaceful spot away from the crowds, Leighton Beach is a quiet escape. Its calm waters and scenic views make it ideal for swimming or enjoying a picnic. Afterward, you can explore the nearby North Fremantle area, which is full of cafes and shops.

Perth really does have it all stunning beaches, fantastic outdoor spaces, and a relaxed atmosphere that makes it so easy to fall in love with. Whether you’re into exploring nature, relaxing by the beach, or indulging in some great food and culture, Perth offers a perfect blend of everything. With so much to do and see, I’m sure you’ll find your own favorite way to enjoy this beautiful city.
